IDH Farmfit Intelligence Portal

UX & UI design

Backstory

IDH Farmfit Business Support provides technical assistance to companies and banks, helping them develop cost-efficient smallholder inclusive business models.

They were looking for help to design a web platform that will exhilarate and scale their initiative. IDH Farmfit already had a rough prototype that helped them to validate their idea. Now we had to make it work and address the core challenges.

Challenge

Working with smallholders from developing countries is not efficient and not always profitable. Unreliable suppliers and side-selling are some of the challenges companies working with smallholders face. Lack of access to insightful data that can make the engagement more profitable for all sides is also lacking in the public domain.

Responsibilities

I work on this project on a team with a product manager, two developers, and myself partnering with the core team from IDH Farmfit.

My responsibilities were to use the insights gathered on a strategy workshop at the start of the project and ideate and iterate on designing possible solutions together with both teams.

I used wireframes to ideate on the main user flows. Took active part in multiple brainstorm sessions to help the team problem solve on the go. I’ve used already established visual brand identity of the company to develop the high-fidelity designs. And prepped the final designs for hand-off to developers.

Solution

Innovation
This is are case studies from companies successfully working with smallholder farmers that can serve as inspiration. To make them as relevant as possible to the visitors they have the option to filter them by the type of solution or crop.

Benchmarking Database

This tool helps companies find out how much it is costing their peers to serve farmers, make an impact, and how they are recovering these costs.
Here are key decisions that we took to ensure the process was satisfying and informative.

  • Split the process into easy to digest steps.
  • See a sample result even before you enter any data.
  • See the results change in real-time when you enter data.
  • You can skip the data entry and see a sample report and edit it on the spot using the filters on the left.
  • Alongside the results show a collection of innovation case studies and resources related to your selections that can help you further.

Business Modelling

This simple analysis tool provides you with an indicative quantification of the business case for the visitor’s business model, as well as a better understanding of the data you need to design and monitor and manage a successful smallholder business.

This is quite an elaborate process that involves a lot of data entry.

Here are key decisions that we took to ensure the process was manageable and even satisfying.

  • Split the process into easy to digest steps.
  • Always present navigation helping to be aware of where you in the process.
  • See a sample result even before you enter any data.
  • See the results change in real-time when you enter data.
  • Have pre-filled data so you can skip fields if you are not sure that to enter.
  • You can skip the data entry and see a sample report and edit it on the spot using the filters on the left.
  • Auto-save so you can pick up where you left off last time.
